Chronic Pain Care

Living with chronic pain can be exhausting — physically, mentally and emotionally. Unlike acute injuries, chronic pain often persists beyond normal healing time and can affect work, sleep, movement, mood and overall quality of life.

At Lion Rocker Health, we approach chronic pain differently. Drawing from our musculoskeletal injury care framework, we focus on understanding why pain persists and how to safely restore confidence, movement and function through an interventional, multidisciplinary model.

Our goal is not just pain relief, but long-term improvement in how your body moves, loads and copes with daily life.

Who We Help

We support adults experiencing:

  • Pain lasting longer than 12 months
  • Recurring injuries that never fully settle
  • Pain that limits work, sleep or daily activity
  • Pain after surgery or injury that has plateaued
  • Fear of movement or flare-ups
  • Complex or multi-site pain presentations

Chronic pain does not mean damage is still occurring — but it does require a different, more considered approach.

Common Chronic Pain Conditions We Treat

  • Complex-regional pain syndrome
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Chronic low back pain
  • Chronic neck and shoulder pain
  • Persistent post-surgical pain
  • Tendinopathies that fail to resolve
  • Arthritis-related pain and stiffness
  • Chronic hip, knee, foot or ankle pain
  • Nerve-related pain (non-acute)
  • Recurrent muscle and joint pain
  • Work-related overuse and repetitive strain injuries

Our Approach to Chronic Pain

Our chronic pain care builds directly on our musculoskeletal injury framework, with additional emphasis on education, graded exposure and long-term capacity building.

We focus on:

  • Understanding pain drivers (mechanical, loading, nervous system sensitivity)
  • Identifying movement patterns that maintain pain
  • Reducing flare-ups while rebuilding tolerance
  • Hands-on treatment to improve mobility and confidence
  • Progressive, achievable exercise
  • Empowering you with knowledge and control

Pain reduction and function improvement happen together — not separately.

How Our Teams Helps

Interventional Physiotherapy

Our physiotherapists lead the assessment and interventional care.

They provide:

  • Detailed musculoskeletal and movement assessment
  • Hands-on therapy to restore joint and soft tissue mobility
  • Dry needling, electrotherapy and shockwave
  • Education around pain mechanisms and flare management
  • Graded return-to-activity planning

Physiotherapy focuses on restoring trust in movement while respecting pain thresholds.

Expert Exercise Physiology

Exercise physiology is essential for long-term chronic pain management.

Our exercise physiologists:

  • Design graded strength and conditioning programs
  • Improve load tolerance safely and progressively
  • Address deconditioning from long-term pain
  • Support return to work, sport or daily activity
  • Build resilience to reduce future flare-ups

Exercise is dosed carefully to rebuild confidence, not provoke pain cycles.

Remedial Massage Therapy

Remedial massage supports pain relief and nervous system calming.

Our therapists:

  • Reduce muscle guarding and tension
  • Improve circulation and tissue health
  • Support relaxation and recovery
  • Complement physiotherapy and exercise programs

Massage is used strategically — not as a standalone solution.

Why Choose Lion Rocker Health for Chronic Pain?

  • We treat the person, not just the pain location
  • Interventional and hands-on care combined with exercise
  • Multidisciplinary team under one roof
  • Clear explanation and education at every stage
  • Focus on progress, not passive dependence
  • Long-term strategies for sustainable improvement

We do not believe in endless treatment without direction.

Case Studies

Case Study 1: Chronic Low Back Pain

Presentation: 45-year-old with ongoing back pain for over 2 years, worse with sitting and lifting.

Findings:

  • Reduced spinal mobility
  • Poor load tolerance
  • Fear of bending and flare-ups

Our approach:

  • Physiotherapy: manual therapy, graded exposure to movement combining with shockwave therapy, ultrasound therapy
  • Exercise physiology: progressive strength for spine and hips from reformer Pilates, to home exercise program and water based exercises
  • Remedial Massage Therapy: hands-on approach to improve joint mobility and muscles recovery

Outcome: Improved confidence, return to gym training and reduced pain flare frequency to only one every 6 months. Mild episode and self-management only.

Case Study 2: Persistent Shoulder Pain After Injury

Presentation: 38-year-old with shoulder pain 12 months post-injury, despite rest and imaging. Imaging showed a supraspinatus tear, full thickness tear.

Findings:

  • Weak rotator cuff endurance
  • Altered movement patterns
  • Sensitivity with overhead tasks

Our approach:

  • Physiotherapy: restoring shoulder mobility and control through dry needling, shockwave therapy and manual active scapular retraining
  • Exercise physiology: graded strengthening and loading at home and in the gym
  • Remedial massage: reducing protective muscle tension through hands on therapy

Outcome: Returned to overhead work with minimal discomfort. No surgery was required

Case Study 3: Multi-Site Chronic Pain

Presentation: 52-year-old with neck, back and hip pain affecting daily activity. Pain onset from a work injury 2 years ago. Waking up with severe pain. Pain progressively increases during the day. No formal diagnosis of fibromyalgia/ complex region pain syndrome.

Findings:

  • Global deconditioning
  • Poor posture and movement confidence
  • High sensitivity to load changes

Our approach:

  • Team-based care across physio and exercise physiology
  • Gradual full-body strengthening
  • Education on pacing and recovery
  • Regular manual therapy and multi-modal therapy to improve symptoms

Outcome: Gradual reduction in pain. Pain maintained at a mild to moderate level throughout the day. Able to return to work and weekend soccer without aggravation of pain.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Many people improve significantly with the right approach.

When guided correctly, exercise is one of the most effective treatments.

Yes. Pain is real, even when imaging is clear. A scan would show any structural deficit that could contribute to pain. However, factors, like posture, motor control, muscle synchrony through movement and function, are not reflect in scans. They are factors that should be considered when treating and recovering for a chronic painful condition.

Varied. Factor like chronicity, initial presentation, diagnosis etc can affect your treatment plan. Goals of therapy can range from full recovery to maintaining and avoiding deterioration. Hence, recovery and treatment timeframe varies.

Our goal is independence, not reliance. Goals of therapy can range from full recovery to maintaining and avoiding deterioration. Hence, recovery and treatment timeframe varies.
